News from Nottingham

*Some interesting news from the Nottingham listserv –*

(1) Congratulations to Eric Houck (Ed Smith alum), finishing second in the
NY State Cross Country Skiing Championships held in Lake Placid earlier
this week. Eric took second in the 10km skate race on Monday, and on
Tuesday in the classic relay he had the fastest split time although his
section 3 team came in 5th. Fantastic job, Eric! Eric will be competing in
Junior Nationals March 6-13th in northern Wisconsin.

(2) Congrats as well to Nottingham’s Mock Trial team, which defeated Tully
Thursday in the first round of the Onondaga County Bar Association Mock
Trial tournament. This season’s case is a suppression hearing about
whether evidence found in a drug case can be used in the upcoming trial.
In the first round, Nottingham was the prosecution, and Julian Valendia,
Janet Nguyen and Patrick McCarthy were lawyers. The witnesses were Lauren
Shatraw, James Erdman and Orla Kelly. Next week Nottingham will be the
defense and compete against Cortland.

(3) Nottingham physics teacher Tom Procopio has been named the Secondary
Educator of the Year by the SCSD’s Education Foundation. Congratulations,
Mr. Procopio—well-deserved.

(4) Nottingham has been taken off the state priority list and out of
receivership and will begin next year as a focus school. The hard work of
our administrative staff, teachers and students has paid off—keep it going,
Nottingham!

HAPPY WEEKEND everyone!
