Forwarded from the UNPA listserv UNPA Annual Meeting Announcement (Rescheduled) Wednesday, January 30, 2013 7 – 9 PM Westcott Community Center University Neighborhood Preservation Association (UNPA) has rescheduled their annual meeting to Wednesday, January 30th, from 7 – 9 PM, at the Westcott Community Center, located at 826 Euclid Avenue, Syracuse, NY. The guest speaker will be Andrew Maxwell, Director of the City’s Bureau of Planning & Sustainability. “Our board understands the value of collaboration to make our neighborhood a wonderful place to live,” says Rebecca Shaffer Mannion, UNPA Executive Director. “We are all fortunate to be a part of the planning process that makes this city forward-thinking and aware of changing environmental dynamics and urban renewal. Mr. Maxwell is a leader in urban development and renewal. We are pleased to have him join us.” “We are proud of the progress made with neighborhood development programs and the continued success of our Home Buyer’s Assistance and University Neighborhood Home Improvement Programs have had,” says Joseph Russo, UNPA President. “We look forward to a conversation about how our neighborhood can remain innovative and support the city’s sustainability efforts.” Andrew Maxwell was appointed founding Director of the City’s Bureau of Planning & Sustainability by Mayor Stephanie A. Miner in January 2010, and is responsible for the City’s Comprehensive Plan development, urban planning initiatives, sustainability programming, innovation initiatives and general policy development. UNPA primarily administers a homebuyers assistance program that helps families and individuals purchase homes in the UNPA Target Area. Its mission is to promote owner-occupancy of homes in the area east of Syracuse University campus; provide homebuyers assistance, low-interest home improvements loans, and other incentives; market the University Neighborhood as a good place to live; and partner with municipal agencies, the University, and other neighborhood organizations to do so.
